Ferndale Moves background

Through the establishment of Ferndale Moves! in 2014, the City of Ferndale made an ambitious commitment to residents to increase transportation options, balance the needs of all road users, improve safety, and transform the city’s streets into remarkable and functional places. Strategies for improvement to the transportation network were published in the 2014 plan and on this website. The plan proposed a network of bicycle routes and pedestrian improvements, which has been undergoing implementation over the past five years and has resulted in a growing walking and bicycling network. Since adoption, the City has constructed bikeways on nearly every major road in Ferndale. Ferndale Moves! also set high standards for ongoing communications and trust between residents, stakeholders, and City staff. This strong foundation and ongoing website set the stage for a successful update in the Ferndale Moves! Plan.

Over the next 9 months, the City will be assessing Ferndale’s current transportation system to understand the environment for biking, walking, and taking public transit. The purpose of this work is to update the existing Ferndale Moves! plan. This plan will identify and prioritize transportation-related projects and programs for the future of mobility in Ferndale. Ferndale Moves! will also coordinate projects that overlap with stormwater, paving, or community projects to look for ways to further multiple initiatives at once.
